Historic Beech Island First Baptist

There ain't another one like us! - 1 Peter 2:9

Historic First Baptist Church, Beech Island, was formed from members of
Baptist Associations from around the Central Savannah River Area in
1832. As we did then, we stand on the foundation of the Bible as the Word of God. Our services, outreach, and leadership answer to the authority of God's Word.

We believe the Bible is the inerrant, infallible, inspired Word of God and is our ultimate authority in all matters of faith and practice. Every word is "breathed out by God." (2 Timothy 3:16, 1 Peter 1:24-25, 2 Peter 1:20-21)

We believe that "within the one Being that is God, there exists eternally three coequal and coeternal persons, namely, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit" (James R. White, The Forgotten Trinity) (Genesis 1:1-3,27, 18:1-33, John 10:30, 2 Corinthians 13:14)

We believe every person is created in the image of God. (Genesis 1:26-27, James 3:9 1 John 4:20-21)

We believe that every person has sinned, "for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." (Palm 14:3 Romans 3:23). Sin is anything that displeases God. Sin is not only doing the wrong thing, but also not doing the right thing whenever possible.  Because of sin, we are unable to please God, and unable to redeem ourselves.
Because we have sinned, we are condemned to Hell. Hell is a place of eternal punishment (Mark 9:44, Luke 16:23,28, Revelation 20:11-15). Hell is a place of loneliness, suffering, burning, and punishment. Because we have sinned against an eternal God, the punishment for our sin is eternity in Hell (Romans 6:23).

We believe that Jesus is God the Son, 100% God and 100% man. (John 1:1-5, 10:30) He was born of a virgin and lived a sinless life. He died on the cross as a substitute for everyone who has faith in Him. He rose again the third day to prove His defeat of sin and His deity as the Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Ephesians 2:8-9) Faith is believing strongly enough to change your life. Faith is belief and repentance. (John 14:15, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 15:2, James 2:14-26, 1 Peter 1:13-23)
Because Jesus died for our sins, He is the only way to escape eternity in Hell. (John 11:25-26, 14:6). Salvation is only by grace, it is a free gift. Salvation can only be accepted through faith, which is life changing belief. (Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 10:9-10)

Salvation puts us in a right relationship with God, cleansing our sin and giving us the ability to become conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:28-39, Matthew 11:28-30). Being saved grants us access to Heaven, a place of eternal blessedness. Heaven is only acceptable through faith in Christ Jesus. There is no sin, suffering, or sadness in Heaven. Heaven is perfect. Souls in Heaven await the resurrection, where all saints will be reunited with their bodies (John 6:37-40, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).

We believe the Holy Spirit seals the believer and perseveres him in faith. (John 14:25-26, Romans 8:29-39, 1 Corinthians 6:11)

We believe baptism is the believer's first step in obedience. Baptism is for believers and should be accomplished by immersion.  Baptism is a symbol of the believer dying to self and raising to walk in obedience to God's Word. Baptism is an important symbol, but has no saving power in and of itself. Only faith is necessary for salvation. (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 8:35-39, 9:18, 10:44-48)

We believe Jesus is coming back, as He said He would. (John 14:1-3, Acts 1:8-11)

We believe we are commanded to tell every person about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:18-20,  Acts 1:8, Romans 1:16)
